Oliebollen (Dutch Donuts)

Ingredients

flour 500 gram
yeast (fresh) 25 gram
milk 350 ml
raisins 250 gram
apples 2 (grated)
salt 1 pinch
sunflower oil 4 liter

Preparation

  1. Pour the flour in a large bowl or small bucket. Make a small hole in the center of the flour. Add some lukewarm milk in the hole. Add the yeast and let it dissolve.
  2. Slowly mix flour into the milk-yeast mixture, and add the remainder of the milk. When all the milk is added, add the raisins and stir the mixture until will mixed.
  3. Cover the bowl/bucket with a moist cloth and leave in a warm location to rise. Let the dough rise for 45mins to an hour. Do not disturb the mixture (No stirring or shaking). If the mixture has doubled in size it is ready to be used.
  4. Heat the oil to 170 degrees celcius (The oil will just start to steam) in a wide and deep pan. Add the dough in little balls (Use two tablespoons to make small balls, and let the dough drop from them into the hot oil). Be careful: Hot oils gives nasty burns! Fry the 'oliebollen' to a golden brown. You may need to turn them.
  5. Serving suggestionAdd powdered sugar on top of the fried 'oliebollen' for serving.
